It will surely be tough eating salads and vegetables when everyone else at your dinner table is eating pizza. Decide that this diagnosis can benefit the health of the entire family. Educate your family about the benefits of eating a healthy diet. Take your children grocery shopping with you. Practice the plate method: Aim to make half your plate non-starchy vegetables; a quarter lean protein; and a quarter whole grains or starchy vegetables, like sweet potatoes. Make exercise part of your daily routine and include your family. Go for walks after dinner. Head to the pool on the weekends, or enroll in an exercise class. If you don’t have children, aim to find others with diabetes or friends that can act as your workout partners.

I was put on a very strict diet a few years ago. She put me on the max dose of Victoza, Januvia and I was still taking 25 units of insulin at each meal. At that time my A1C was I think a 10. And all my lab work was out of whack. Also a 36g of carbs a day and NO MORE. I was scared but took on the challenge and was very strict, except I gave myself ONE cheat day a week because I knew if I didn’t I would fail the diet, so I had something each week to keep pushing me. The weight just started dropping off. In 3 months time I was down 40lbs and feeling wonderful. I decided to continue on this journey until one day a tragedy in my family so I went off the diet. At that time I was down around 60lbs. BYW, I weighed about 287lbs. when I started. After all the grieving ( which took a toll on me an a while to get through it). I tackled the diet again. Didn’t stay as strict and seen little weight loss. Through the years I have gone off and on the diet. I never once exercised and my skin showed it lol. Let’s see that was around 2013. My marriage was having problems in 2015 and again off the diet I started noticing more weight loss (stress). Marriage Problems fixed. (so I thought) the weight started coming back on. Once again in 2015 more marriage issues. Started losing weight AGAIN LOL. At this time I was around 215lbs. We separated again August of 2016 with my weight dropping at what seemed like a fast pace. This year around April I was weighing in at 175 which was my goal weight from the beginning. I had finally made it and decided it was time to just maintain. Unfortunately it has been increasing at a fast pace. I had my 3rd surgery a month ago and still on limitations ( yes I had started working out to maintain) now I can barely walk down the driveway without feeling like I’m dying. Oh, I have multiple serious medical problems as well, that doesn’t help me and being on disability now. So I went to the dr. Today and weighed in at 196’😲I told my new doctor I’ve had it. So I was put on metformin a while back but wouldn’t take it because I bough it caused weight gain. The dr. Also put me on phentermine. I’m ready to kick this fat back off again and I have a new goal of 150. I’m 5’7 and wear a size 10 when at 170. I have a very large body frame so I don’t have much BMInbut wanna try to get into an eight. I will be extatic. I’m so happy I found this blog. If anyone wants to diet together and keep each other on track, you can add me on Facebook. Missy Cauley is my name and I’m in Illinois. Thanks again everyone.
Insurance Persons with diabetes may develop high blood sugar levels which then overwhelm their kidney’s ability to reabsorb sugars as their blood is filtered to produce urine. An excessive amount of urine is produced by their body as their kidney attempts to get rid of excess sugar, and the body attempts to counteract this by telling the brain to dilute their blood, translating it as a message to the person telling them they are thirsty. The body encourages water consumption in an effort to dilute high levels of blood sugar and reduce it to normal levels, as well as to compensate for any water that has been lost through increased urination. Excessive thirst in persons with diabetes is also referred to as, ‘Polydipsia.’ Excessive urination is referred to as, ‘Polyuria.’

Some people may need to measure their blood glucose levels multiple times a day, whereas others may need to infrequently.
