Hi , My name is Gurleen. I have always had weight problem meaning I have always been a big girl. I currently weight 116 kilos. I have put on 17 kilos in last 6 months due to a injury in july last yr which is why I take lots of nerve meds and pain meds. Due to this gain in my weight, doctor got me to do my blood test to rule out type 2 diabetic. I am going today to see her and to know the bitter truth. She would be putting me on metformin I imagine. I wonder if I would loose weight on it. All this weight that I have gained has made my life harder. Very insecure about my self that I can’t even be open to my own hubby. He is amazing yet I feel scared and depressed. Do you guys think metformin would be helpfull at all? I am losing hope as well as losing myself.. !

I don’t know why but I have hypothyroidism as well. Metformin is certainly working for me but I am not even close to having diabetes. I don’t deprive myself but I try to stay under my caloric count for the day. I JOURNAL everything I eat and keep track of my calories. It HAS worked for me but I exercise a tiny bit as well – meaning I walk. I eat meat but only the correct portion. I have lost 21 lbs in 2.5 months.

Metformin has acid dissociation constant values (pKa) of 2.8 and 11.5, so exists very largely as the hydrophilic cationic species at physiological pH values. The metformin pKa values make metformin a stronger base than most other basic medications with less than 0.01% nonionized in blood. Furthermore, the lipid solubility of the nonionized species is slight as shown by its low logP value (log(10) of the distribution coefficient of the nonionized form between octanol and water) of -1.43. These chemical parameters indicate low lipophilicity and, consequently, rapid passive diffusion of metformin through cell membranes is unlikely. As a result of its low lipid solubility it requires the transporter SLC22A1 in order for it to enter cells. The logP of metformin is less than that of phenformin (-0.84) because two methyl substituents on metformin impart lesser lipophilicity than the larger phenylethyl side chain in phenformin. More lipophilic derivatives of metformin are presently under investigation with the aim of producing prodrugs with superior oral absorption than metformin.

Doctors tend to recommend certain diet and lifestyle changes alongside metformin and medications for type 2 diabetes or prediabetes. Many of these diet and lifestyle changes are also likely to lead to weight loss if the person follows the recommendations.

This system fails when someone has diabetes, causing various symptoms to emerge that can affect nearly every system in the body. With diabetes, signs of blood sugar fluctuations often include changes in your appetite, weight, energy, sleep, digestion and more.

What’s the link between vitamin D, gum health, and diabetes? 22 Aug 2018 Diabetes is a common group of chronic metabolic diseases that cause high blood sugar (glucose) levels in the body due to defects in insulin production and/or function. Insulin is a hormone released by the pancreas when we eat food. Insulin allows sugar to go from the blood into the cells. If the cells of the body are not using insulin well, or if the body is unable to make any or enough insulin, sugar builds up in the blood.
Maturity onset diabetes of the young (MODY) is an autosomal dominant inherited form of diabetes, due to one of several single-gene mutations causing defects in insulin production. It is significantly less common than the three main types. The name of this disease refers to early hypotheses as to its nature. Being due to a defective gene, this disease varies in age at presentation and in severity according to the specific gene defect; thus there are at least 13 subtypes of MODY. People with MODY often can control it without using insulin.
Infections: Certain infections — such as frequent yeast infections of the genitals, dental infections, skin infections, and frequent urinary tract infections — may result from suppression of the immune system by diabetes and by the presence of glucose in the tissues, which allows bacteria to grow. These infections can also be an indicator of poor blood sugar control in a person known to have diabetes.
